Some still run hydronic heat, while others were converted to gas or forced air, leaving behind capped supply lines or an abandoned oil fill port on the exterior wall as a visible remnant of the earlier system.

Thermal Imaging Reads What Finished Walls Hide

In homes this heavily reworked, surface temperature differentials help locate conditions that finished surfaces would otherwise obscure.

Thermal imaging picks up anomalies that the eye can’t. On a solid masonry wall with little cavity insulation, a thermal camera often reveals cold zones where brick or stucco loses heat unevenly, a pattern common in these 1920s exterior walls. Behind a recently finished basement wall, a thermal signature showing a cooler band near the floor line can flag moisture migration through the foundation.

Around the plumbing transitions mentioned earlier, a temperature differential at a ceiling or wall can point to a slow leak worth noting. These readings are surface indications, not confirmations, and they guide where a closer visual look makes sense.

Drone Imaging Covers Steep Roofs and Tight Setbacks

The steep-pitched roofs and close spacing between homes here make an overhead view genuinely useful.

Many Stewart Manor cottages carry the steep gable and clipped-eave rooflines of their period, and the tight side yards leave little room for ladder placement. Using drone imaging under FAA Part 107 certification, the roof surfaces, chimney crowns, and valley flashing come into clear view without disturbing the covering.
